PGA Tournaments, European Tour, LPGA & more
The PGA season is in full swing which means the first
major is just around the corner. This year's Masters
tees off at Augusta National on April 5th, but the
oddsmakers at
Gamblerspalace.com
are already weighing in on their favorites.
Betting on
Golf
Betting
on golf has increased dramatically in popularity over recent
years. Two different types of bets are offered; the first
is betting on the winner of the event with odds, generally
ranging from about 7/1 to 70/1, being offered on all players.
These odds are then adjusted after each round of play. Secondly,
there are match-ups in which two or more players are hypothetically
matched against each other, either on a round-by-round basis
or over the entire course of the tournament.
Golf betting
is available on PGA, LPGA and European Tour events, The
Masters, the U.S. Open, the British Open, and the Ryder
Cup, which in recent years has become highly competitive
with the outcome frequently coming down to the results of
the last few singles match-ups.
Golf is
a major international leisure and sporting activity with
two leading tournament circuits: The U.S. Professional Golfers
Association (PGA) and the European Tour. Big-money events
are also held in Australia, South Africa, the Caribbean
and, increasingly, Asia. Almost all events are decided over
four rounds of golf. There are also American and European
ladies circuits. Most events feature "sudden-death" playoffs
in the event that two or more players are tied after the
regulation 72 holes of play. The prize-money available in
golf has risen substantially in recent years; indeed, with
huge purses and lucrative sponsorship deals, especially
from equipment manufacturers, the leading players are amongst
the world's best-paid sporting figures. While primarily
an individual sport, every two years the top American and
European players meet in the Ryder Cup with the venue alternating
between the two continents, the tournament being held in
Rochester, New York in 1995 and in Spain in 1997. Each team
has 12 players, 10 of whom are determined by rankings based
on their performances on their respective tours and selected
major events, with the team captain nominating the other
two players. These players then meet in head-to-head singles
and doubles match-ups.
Betting
on golf is at its most exciting during one of the four majors:
The Masters, U.S. Open and PGA. in the U.S., and the British
Open. With the exception of The Masters which is always
played at Augusta, Georgia, the venue for these events rotates
among a group of leading courses.
