Every June, the Travelers Championship is played at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell at Connecticut. welcoming the world's best golfers and more than 200,000 energized fans for one week of dynamic professional golf action and other great events at the Travelers Championship.

The Travelers Championship has survived several sponsor changes, including a bridge plan of local corporations to keep the PGA Tour event alive in 2004. Travelers, which has been involved the tournament since it began in 1952 as the Insurance City Open, saved the event again when it became title sponsor in 2007 as the tour started a new FedEx Cup series. The Travelers Championship was one of 38 tournaments leading to the first three-event playoffs and Tour Championship. Travelers and the Greater Hartford Jaycees began talks in the fall of 2005 after Buick informed them it wouldn't be a major sponsor after the third Buick Championship.

Travellers Championship first three decades was played at Wethersfield Country Club. In 1984, after the PGA Tour bought and redesigned Edgewood Country Club, the event moved to the new TPC of Connecticut in Cromwell. In 1991, the course was substantially redesigned with a completely new back nine holes and renamed the TPC at River Highlands.

The Travelers Championship is an important part of the region’s sports history and has made several enhancements since Travelers became title sponsor in 2007, including constructing a state-of-the-art practice facility that makes the TPC River Highlands an attractive destination for PGA TOUR professionals. The tournament features an enhanced fan zone between holes one and 18 where spectators can participate in interactive exhibits. Other fan activities include the Celebrity Pro-Am, Women’s Day, Men’s Health Week and a concert series after play concludes on Friday and Saturday.
