THE TOUR Championship presented by Coca-Cola will be the last stop in the US PGA Tour calendar in terms of the money list. It is one of the richest tournaments on the circuit with the top 30 money champions on the PGA Tour after the penultimate tournament become eligible for The Tour Championship, which is reckoned as one of the most prosperous events during the TOUR.

 

THE TOUR Championship is the official final tournament on the golf PGA TOUR season. Starting from 1997, the Championship was held in different places, either at Champions Golf Club in Houston, Texas, or at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta, Georgia. East Lake Club became the contests permanent residence in 2004.

Bill Haas wins the 2011 Tour Championship by defeating Hunter Mahan after 3 playoff holes. Haas' pitch shot out of a lake and over a large hill, which he knocked within three feet of the pin. This came on the second playoff hole, where Haas and Mahan both made par. On the final playoff hole, Haas made an impressive par after a poor tee shot, while Mahan conceded after failing to hole out in three shots on the Par 3.

2009 The TOUR Championship Winner

Mickelson capped off a tumultuous summer at home with a spectacular rally at East Lake, closing with a 5-under 65 to go from four shots behind to a three-shot victory. Mickelson finished at 9-under 271 and earned $1.35 million. He also collected $3 million for being second in the FedEx Cup. It was his third victory of the year, the 37th of his career and it pushed him back to No. 2 in the world ranking.

2008 The TOUR Championship Winner

Camilo Villegas made up a five-shot deficit in the final round to win the Tour Championship, closing with a 4-under 66 and beating Sergio Garcia on the first playoff hole with a two-putt par. Villegas had gone 85 starts on the PGA Tour without winning, but Sunday was his second victory in a row.
The 26-year-old Colombian wound up second in the FedEx Cup behind Vijay Singh, who only had to complete the Tour Championship to capture the $10 million prize. Villegas, who should move to No. 6 in the world ranking, earned $1.26 million for winning the Tour Championship and $3 million in bonus money for his second-place finish in the FedEx Cup.

2007 The TOUR Championship Winner

In 2007 Tiger Woods won this tournament last year but injury will prevent him from defending his title. Tiger Woods will be looking to add two more titles to his list of career accomplishments this week when he takes to the East Lake Golf Course in Atlanta, Georgia for The TOUR Championship. Not only will Woods be trying to win that prestigious tournament, but he’ll also be trying to take the PGA Tour’s first-ever FedExCup points championship.
