Ryder Cup Championship Results
The long awaited betting on the Ryder Cup takes place in September at the K Club, County Kildare in Ireland. In an event which takes place every two years, the leading American and European golfers compete for the premier team golf event. Betting on the Ryder Cup is now massive all over the world and many bookmakers offer a variety of special bets to mark the occasion.

This Ryder Cup event between the US and European golfers takes place this year at Kildare Golf and Country Club in Kildare, Ireland.

Europe is the defending champion, having beaten the US 18 ½-9 ½ at Oakland Hills, Mich., in 2004. The Ryder Cup is contested over 28 matches, each worth a point. Players compete against each other, not the course, and the score reflects the number of holes won. The winning player or team receives one point, and each participant receives a ½ point in the event the match is tied after 18 holes. Friday morning there are four four-ball matches, with foursomes in the afternoon.

Captain Ian Woosnam's European team likely will be the sportsbook favorite to retain the Cup. Golf bettors may see the world's
top two players, Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson, on captain Tom Lehman's US squad, but Europe features better depth and has
dominated this event in recent years. With veterans like Sergio Garcia, Jose Maria Olazabal, Colin Montgomerie and Darren Clarke,
the Europeans will be tough to bet against.

2006 Ryder Cup Results

The 36th Ryder Cup Tournament was held between September 22 and September 24, 2006 at The K Club, Straffan, Co. Kildare, Ireland. Team Europe won the competition by a score of 18 to 9, equaling their record winning margin of 2 years earlier. This was the first time Europe had achieved three successive victories.

Straffan, County Kildare, Ireland - When Luke Donald rolled in a three-foot putt at the 17th to win his match against Chad Campbell Sunday, that gave Europe 14 1/2 points, the number needed to win the Ryder Cup-again.

The European side captured the Ryder Cup by a final score of 18 1/2 - 9 1/2, which matched the largest margin of victory by its side that was established the last time around in 2004 at Oakland Hills.

Betting on Golf

Betting on golf is at its most exciting during one of the four majors: The Masters, U.S. Open and PGA. in the U.S., and the British Open. With the exception of The Masters which is always played at Augusta, Georgia, the venue for these events rotates among a group of leading courses.

Golf betting is available on PGA, LPGA and European Tour events, The Masters, the U.S. Open, the British Open, and the Ryder Cup, which in recent years has become highly competitive with the outcome frequently coming down to the results of the last few singles match-ups.

Betting on golf has increased dramatically in popularity over recent years. Two different types of bets are offered; the first is betting on the winner of the event with odds, generally ranging from about 7/1 to 70/1, being offered on all players. These odds are then adjusted after each round of play. Secondly, there are match-ups in which two or more players are hypothetically matched against each other, either on a round-by-round basis or over the entire course of the tournament.
