The St. Jude Classic is a golf tournament taking place on the PGA Tour regularly. The St. Jude Classic has been held in Memphis, Tennessee every year in May since 1989. It has been played on the course at the Tournament Players Club that is at Southwind. The tournament's title sponsor in 2007 was the Stanford Financial Group, and the event was renamed to the Stanford St. Jude Championship.

Previously the tournaments sponsor was FedEx Corporation, a courier company offering overnight courier, heavy freight, ground, logistics services as well as document copying. All the profit gained from the tournament is donated to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. In 2006 the purse was $5,200,000 with the winner receiving $936,000.

Golf has played a historical role in helping St. Jude continue its mission to find cures and save children. Since St. Jude became the tournament's sole beneficiary in 1970, the event has generated more than $21.0 million toward the fight against childhood catastrophic diseases.

Looking back to the past and collecting some history facts, one can recollect that the tournament was founded in 1958 and was first called the Memphis Open. It was held every year at Colonial Country Club in Cordova until 1989. It is amazing that in 1969, a famous actor Danny Thomas allowed to lend his own name to the event provided that the tournament would become a donation to St. Jude Hospital. So, a year later the name of the tournament was changed to the Danny Thomas Classic. In 1977, Al Geiberger managed to shoot a record 59 (13-under-par) round. And only in 1989, the tournament moved to the TPC, its present location at Southwind in Memphis.
