Buick Open 1958-2009

Buick Open PGA Golf Tournament, sponsored by General Motors, was Genesee County’s premiere summer happening. The week-long tournament raised hundreds and thousands of dollars for local charities. The tournament ended in 2009, the same year GM went bankrupt.

The Buick Open is usually held during the second week following The Open Championship, or two weeks prior to the PGA Championship. For this reason, many prominent professional golfers use it as a "tune-up" for the much more important major tournament. The Buick Open is the third of three Buick-sponsored events on the PGA Tour.

The Buick Open was established in 1958, and has been held at the Warwick Hills Golf and Country Club in Grand Blanc, Michigan for 48 years of its 49-year history. This prestigious golf tournament is one of three Buick-sponsored events on the PGA Tour.

Warwick Hills Course

The 18-hole “Warwick Hills” course at the Warwick Hills Golf and Country Club is a world-class course featuring 7,101 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 72. The course rating is 74.3 and it has a slope rating of 133 on bent grass. Designed by Joe Lee, the Warwick Hills golf course opened in 1957. Richard L. Fairman currently manages the course.

2008 Buick Invitational Winner

Tiger Woods won his 62nd victory, tying him with Palmer for fourth.

He sent a 60-foot birdie putt that started in one direction and slid into the cup from the other. He made three consecutive bogeys on the back nine, a rarity for him when he's in the lead.

Woods finished at 19-under 269 to win the Buick Invitational for the fourth consecutive year. Woods is the only player to own such a streak at two events, having also won four in a row at Bay Hill.
